basics
Name: Noel Henri Avenant
Nickname: Just Noel, please.
Name Origin: Noel is a French name meaning born on Christmas day; Henri is the French form of Henry, meaning ruler of the home; Avenant is a French surname meaning pleasant.
Birthday: October 14th, 1978
Age: 28
Handwriting: Here.
Manner of Speech: Light French accent, normally even-toned though grows gravelly and deepens when angry.
physical
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 180
Build: Athletic
Eye Colour: Hazel
Hair Colour: Brown
Dress Style: Depends on his mood--dressy when he cares, or a ragged mess when he doesn't.
Possessions Usually Found on Person: When locked in his room, he normally has a mirror on hand. It serves two purposes: during his "normal" states, when he's arrogant, he enjoys admiring himself; on the other hand, during his lowest states, he uses it as a form of self-punishment, to remind himself what he is, etching it in his mind.
background
Home: Born in Nice, France. Most of his youth was spent in America.
Parents: Henri, 60, a banker; Adelie, 54, a graphic designer.
Siblings: None.
Financial Status: Very wealthy.
Family and Personal History: Henri Avenant cannot remember a time when he didn't love Adelie Bonnet. Raised in a wealthy home in a wealthy town, he first noticed his future bride at the age of 16, Adelie only 10. Due to the age difference, Henri thought fondly of her, presenting her with gifts and flowers, but recognized no love for the girl. He thought of himself as a sibling figure, as both were the only children in their households.

In fact, Henri suppressed his love for the girl many years, long enough to propose to an old schoolmate, Marie Michel. Upon telling the 17-year-old Adelie, she did not respond at first, until she promptly slapped him, then kissed him, and ran inside her home. It was only then, Henri standing dumbstruck on his young friend's porch, that he admitted his feelings to himself, seeing that Adelie Bonnet was no longer a small child but a young woman who loved him as deeply as he loved her.

Within the week, Henri and Adelie eloped, using every franc they had between them to rent a small apartment in Nice. The two struggled for many years, wanting nothing more than enough money for a house so they could have a child. As luck would fine them, Henri was promoted in his career as a banker, just as Adelie had been given a high-paying project in graphic design. Time passed and they both rose in their fields. February of 1978 would present the Avenants with their two greatest, and last, happy surprises: Henri's father had passed, leaving his fortune to his estranged son, and Adelie was pregnant. In the will, Henri's father warned that he had not forgiven his son for abandoning the family, and that Henri would be repaid somehow. Henri cared little about the warning as his life was suddenly near perfect.

October 14th brought the arrival of Noel Henri Avenant, already as beautiful as any two parents could hope, whith his father's thick hair and his mother's eyes. He was immediately spoiled, given everything he could ask once he learned to speak. He was placed in the best grammar school available, though his grades fluctuated greatly between passing and failing. During his failing periods, he seemed to experience depression, his personality becoming completely intolerable. Henri and Adelie only wanted the best for their son, so they enlisted him in an American preparatory school, hoping the independence would help.

It didn't.

Needless to say, as he aged, Noel's bouts of depression became destructive, leading to attempted violence on both pupils and faculty. He was entirely uncooperative during these stages, and the school therapist insisted he see by a psychiatrist. Upon returning to France for the summer of 1994, he was officially diagnosed as bipolar. However, he was prescribed the best medications and told he'd be fine if he simply followed the doctor's orders. Noel returned to school and completed his final two years without a hitch, much to the relief of his parents.

Things seemed to be normal for the Avenants as Noel began college in America. Of course, he'd kept his spoiled, bratty nature, but his cycles of self-loathing and depression were rare. Then things took a turn for the worse as Noel stopped his medication, substituting it with the college drug of choice: booze. His manic state became worse, and soon his parents ordered him to return to Nice. The son who arrived was hardly the one they remembered--this was a monster. He stayed locked in his room most of the time, his terrible cries of rage occasionally heard throughout the house. Henri recalled his father's warnings, wondering if he was finally receiving his payment.

With Adelie and Henri so busy with their careers, they were unable to keep an eye on Noel all the time. Returning home one evening, they were greeted by their 26-year-old son collapsed on the kitchen floor with empty prescription bottles surrounding him. Of course he survived, as this is his bio, but not without consequences. His stomach was pumped and a nurse was hired to accompany him throughout the day. Back on medication, Noel was too far gone to be helped. The first time he attacked his nurse was the last straw, and his parents, who truly loved him more than life itself, sent him to Cheshire Crossing, hoping the son they once knew would return someday.

Noel is in his second year at the asylum, and he has made very little progress.
personality
Outwardly: Noel has his princely days where he's spoiled, bratty self, judging everything that dare look his way, and being certain not to associate with the other crazies of Cheshire Crossing. Of course, his bipolarity has gone untreated for so long that his medication hardly helps and he cycles worse than ever, thus leaving him with many off days. On his off days, he exhibits horrible avoidancy, normally refusing to leave his room except if coaxed out for meals, and even that's rare. It's then that he's at his lowest, his self-loathing out of control, and anything can set him off, causing violent outbursts that mean destroying everything in the room.
Inwardly: Noel knows he's crazy. This is a large part of his self-loathing. He knows he's the son who could have anything he wanted, who has everything he needs, but a large part of him is ungrateful, wanting more but what more could there be? Because of this, his manic state is far worse, as he is completely aware how irrational it is and yet there is nothing he can do to fix it.
First Impression: Depends on the day you meet him. He'll either seem cocky and somewhat with it, or like the biggest emo kid ever.
Quirks/Habits/Mannerisms: Paces when impatient and/or thinking.
Likes: Merlot; steak; getting his way; long, hot showers; peacefulness; being left alone.
Dislikes: Being argued with; being ridiculed or teased; people who pry.
Strengths: Can be quite loyal when convinced you're worth it, and would fight to the death for you; is just scary as fuck sometimes so he's definitely one you'd want on your good side. If that's really a strength.
Weaknesses: ...Everything else, basically.
psychology
Disorders: Suffers from bipolarity, to the point where medication hardly makes a difference. Due to this, when his cycling is at its deepest points, he can be prone to bouts of violence and has strong symptoms of avoidancy.
Introvert/Extrovert: Introvert until angry.
Pessimist/Optimist: Pessimist
Faith: Catholic, non-practicing
Phobias/Fears: Rejection, large groups, and himself at times.
health
Eyesite: 20/20
Hearing: Excellent
Left/Right/Ambi: Left
Disabilities: None physically.
Drinks/Smokes: Neither since coming to Cheshire Crossing. Quite a bit of both before.
Physical Health: Good
interpersonal
Relationship status: Single
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Past Relationships: None significant enough to mention
five random facts
- Has a strong dislike for much of American culture, mostly as he divulges in it when on a manic high.
- Never learned to drive, because he was deemed too unstable.
- Hates fantasy and make-believe, but is a fan of realistic science-fiction novels, such as 1984, and historical non-fiction.
- Is obsessed with personal hygiene, showering daily if not more, and always washing his hands.
- Had a dog named Tarrie as a young child. He witnessed Tarrie getting hit by a car, and has never had another pet since, nor has he desired one.
storylines
(and no, these roles do NOT have to be filled by the specific character listed)

The Beauty

The One, basically. Initially taken quite aback by his monstrous nature, she begins to see the human beneath the beast. She is the first to defend him to others, convinced that he's more than they think. Noel trusts her above all others, and, with time, believes her when she tells him he isn't such a monster.

Gaston

Noel has been known to loathe far more people than he likes, but he finds Gaston to be the absolute bottom of the barrel. The man is foul, disgusting, and everything Noel despises in the human race. Though he's done well to ignore the people he hates, he can't bring himself to leave this one alone. Gaston seems to have worked an unshakable nerve, and Noel won't be satisfied until this man is no more.

Mrs. Potts

She seems to know what's best for Noel, even if he has no interest in listening to her. She genuinely has an interest in him as a human being and does not believe for a second that he's the beast he claims to be. Absolutely hellbent on convincing him that there is good in the world, Noel can't bring himself to hate her, no matter how hard he tries. In a way, he's almost fond of her, though he would never admit it.
